Weapons for sale!

My children, children of a possible future diplomat, went door-to-door in our neighborhood. Selling candy bars for some sports team? No. Offering to rake yards? No again. Collecting cans and bottles? Oh, of course not! They worked hard in the woods behind our house making weapons. Yes, weapons. My little Quaker children are really taking the pacifist lessons to heart.

The boys (ages 7 and 9) made bows and arrows whittled from sticks. They made spears from long sticks with rocks lashed to the sharpened ends. They made sling shots. They worked really hard. They worked together. They used their cub scout skills. They included their little sister in the endeavor. Then...then...they wanted to share their weaponry with the rest of the 'burbs. They decided they NEEDED to go door to door selling their handmade weapons. With a sign stating their names and then "Weapons," like Smith and Wesson. Each weapon came with a lifetime guarantee. And a lesson on how to use it.

I was proud and horrified at the same time. They made one sale. To our good friends who always try to encourage the kids. "Wow, that is so creative! I think we will take the slingshot, it looks safest for R (their son). Otherwise R might shoot his eye out. But that is AWESOME!! You guys did a great job!"

Good thing that Top Secret Security Clearance already went through. Because if I was asked if I have any relatives who are weapons dealers... I'm not naming any names but..."Slingshot-S" and "Bow-n-arrow-B" come to mind.

LOL! Too funny. My boys have a pile of homemade bows and arrows but so far it hasn't occurred tot hem to sell them to the neighbors. Mostly they just terrorize the squirrels.

Well, now you know where their interests lie! And when your little ones grow up and try to follow in Dad's footsteps, you might want to send them over to the Dark Side of State...the side that truly enjoys playing with weapons! LOL!

Very entrepreneurial! Your boys are not just creative. They are budding businessmen! Good team players - they worked together. Engaging leaders - they were able to involve their sister in the enterprise. You should be proud of them!

I love the look of your blog! Nice! And I would have bought something in support :) . My friend and I did stuff like that when we were young I remember setting up an entire fair in the front yard one weekend... most games involved throwing, targets, some sort of handmade weapon. We had 3 customers - my dad, my friend's mom, and a cop who was driving by and stopped to see what we were playing.

Love it! And your neighbor is right...so creative! So awesome. Yea them. And yea you for encouraging the whole thing start to finish. (I'd be partial to the bow and arrow myself. Never know where you're heading down the road and a bow and arrow set could come in quite handy).

Shannon- So far, the squirrels haven't been targets. Thankfully.
ADA- The dark side...that would be security? yikes.
Daniela- I am proud of them. They did show creativity.
Connie- You totally cracked me up. I can picture the cop driving by.
Naoma-I had no choice but to encourage them...they had weapons! haha

I think the squirrels are safe as long as they are aiming at the squirrels. If they start aiming at the the rabbits the squirrels may be in danger of getting hit by accident.

and if they ask for matchbooks to make flaming arrows, tell them that homemade arrows are too light for the job and will fly off target in random and dangerous directions... um.. or so I've heard...
